Visitation

Urbana--George L. Sturtz, age 68, died Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Virginia Gay Hospital from a sudden illness.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Pastor Dennis Sackett officiating.  Visitation 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the funeral home.  Interment at the Urbana Cemetery. 

 

George Lee Sturtz was born November 9, 1941 in Vinton to Harry and Velma Christy Sturtz.  He was raised on a farm near Urbana and graduated from Urbana High School in 1961.  George owned and operated Sturtz Lawn and Garden and worked for the Urbana Schools after retiring from his repair shop.  George loved being part of the Urbana Farmers’ Market committee.  For several years he did custom garden tilling and he enjoyed solving the problems of the world with his many coffee group friends. 

 

He is survived by his brother, Roger (Jean) Sturtz, Urbana, IA; his uncle, Melvin (Mary Jo) Christy, Salem, OR; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Dwayne and Eileen Loan Schmidt.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lloyd and Roy.

 

A memorial fund has been established.

Our sincerest sympathy to all who knew and loved George. He will be missed by everyone including the Farmers Market vendors and co-workers at the market. It just won't be the same without him.
