Betty A. Linsey

    Betty Ann Linsey, 85, of Vinton, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following a sudden illness.

   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Pastor Dennis Sackett officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home and also one hour prior to services Wednesday. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Vinton.

   Betty was born September 19, 1923, in rural Vinton, the daughter of Ray and Hazel Edmond Geater. She attended country school and graduated from Vinton High School.

   On December 22, 1946, Betty was united in marriage with Charles Linsey, Jr. at Prairie Creek Christian Church in rural Vinton. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2006.

   Betty worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 17 years, retiring in the early 1980’s. She also worked as a homemaker. 

   She was a lifetime member of Vinton’s George G. Luckey Post 57 American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed flower gardening, bingo, and spending time with family and friends.

   Betty is survived by two sons: Craig (Dale Vorba) Linsey and Dennis (Dana) Linsey, all of Vinton; two brothers: John (Irene) Geater and Lyle (Lillian) Geater, all of Vinton; three sisters: Dorothy (Melvin) Yerkes of Greene, IA; and Mary Ellen Rogers and Zelda Bower, both of Vinton; one sister-in-law: Joyce “Rusty” Geater of Cedar Rapids; 3 grandchildren: Cheyenne Gonzalez and Bethany and Devanie Linsey; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

   She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Steven Linsey; one brother, Donald Geater; and brothers-in-law Dick Rogers and Bill Bower.

   A memorial fund has been established.

Dennis, Craig and family, I would like to extended my deepest sympathy on the loss of Betty. My mom (Opal) and Betty were good friends and bingo playing buddies. Betty was so kind to me when I lost my mom and I know how hard this is for you. She is now with your dad and at peace eternally. Much love and sympathy
