Geraldine Mae Fletcher Lindsey

   Geraldine Mae “Gerry” Lindsey, 76, of Vinton, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following a long illness.
   Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton with Pastor Kären Larson officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 17, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton from 4 to 6 p.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
   Gerry was born September 30, 1932, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Fred and Oletha Brust Fletcher. She was raised in Maquoketa and graduated from Maquoketa High School.
   On June 15, 1952, Gerry was united in marriage with Marvin Lindsey in Waterloo. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Columbus, GA, and Marshalltown and resided in Waterloo for 27 years before settling in Vinton in 1985. The couple loved to travel, visiting 49 states and traveling abroad. 
   She worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell and also as a cake decorator. She was a member of the Vinton Women’s Club, past President of the American Legion Auxiliary, and past President of the Cake Club in Waterloo. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton.
   Gerry is survived by her husband, Marvin Lindsey of Vinton; two sons: Kenton (Kathy) Lindsey of Goddard, KS; and Darrin Lindsey of Vinton; one daughter: Kimberly (Ed) Delamore of Durant, IA; one brother: Fred (Marilyn) Fletcher, Jr. of Florida; two sisters: Sharon (Don) Haefner and Connie Richards, both of Vinton; seven grandchildren: Ryan (Megan) Alderman, Leslie (Willie) Alderman, Brock, Drew and K.C. Lindsey, and Alisa and Connor Delamore; and two great-grandchildren: Chelsea and Aiden Alderman.
   She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Yvonne Koopman.
   A memorial fund has been established.
